First Habanos World Challenge in São Paulo, Brazil

On Wednesday, August 21st, Emporium Cigars, exclusive distributor of [tippy title="Habanos S.A., Corporación"]The Havana-based company, jointly owned by the Cuban industry and the British Imperial Tobacco Group, which markets all 27 Habanos brands worldwide.[/tippy] for Brazil celebrated the first Habanos World Challenge Contest in São Paulo.

A gala dinner was prepared to announce the winners of the Habanos World Challenge with around 320 attendees, among them, Frei Beto, dear friend of the Cuban people, the Cuban Ambassador, General Consul of Cuba Mr. Pedro Monzon, customers, stakeholders and digital influencers. Fernando Teixeira, the General Manager of Emporium Cigars welcomed to the participants.

The first stage of the contest consisted of a general knowledge test on the world of [tippy title="Habanos"]The official Denominación de Origen Protegida (D.O.P.), or Protected Denomination of Origin used only to describe the most outstanding brands of cigars, which are manufactured in Cuba to the most exacting standards established by the Regulatory Council, from tobaccos grown only in particular areas of the island that are also protected as Denominations of Origin. In English the word translates as Havanas, which are widely considered to be the best cigars in the world.[/tippy] a “blind tastings” and the “Habanos moment” in accordance with the official rules of Habanos, S.A. The jury was composed by José Miguel from LCDH from Santiago and Eduardo Lahsen, cigar aficionado, from Chile, Edgar Esch from LCDH Brasil, Claudio Barros from Emporium Cigars and Alexandre Avellar, official jury of the contest held in Havana.

Sergio Cimermann and Claudio Haase are the winning couple of I Habanos World Challenge, who presented their “Habanos Moment” with Cohiba Talismán and Porto Taylor’s 1966 and were announced during the gala dinner. Both will represent Brazil in the III edition of the Habanos World Challenge in Havana, Cuba.

During the evening two new [tippy title="Vitola"]A word with many meanings. In Cuba it refers to the size and shape of a cigar (vitola de galera factory name, vitola de salida market name) and also to a particular size of cigar in an individual packing. In Spain it means a cigar band or ring (vitolfilia cigar band collecting). To some it has an almost spiritual meaning encapsulating every aspect of their cigar of choice.[/tippy] of Partagás Línea Maduro was presented, Maduro Nro 2 and No. 3 as well as a special reserva of 500 units of the regional edition of Bolívar Redentor 2013. In addition to this, the 2nd Regional Edition for Brazil, whose vitola and brand will be presented in the next year, was communicated.
